This post is all about designing a home coffee bar that will make you forget your favorite coffee shop!

One of the things I love most about home decor is how it can be used to elevate daily habits. After all, crafting a home that not only accommodates your lifestyle but introduces style and elegance into it is the secret to well-lived, cherished spaces. It’s not a coincidence that our motto here at The Chic Quota is “Living With Elegance”. And what daily habit deserves to be celebrated more than a delicious cup of coffee? Absolutely none is the correct answer!
Whether your family is full of coffee lovers or you just have an appreciation for all cozy drinks, having a dedicated space in your home can turn a mundane treat into a special moment of calm and relaxation. Enter: the home coffee bar! Think of a space-efficient, more affordable version of your favorite coffee shop. The best part? It’s a space that is incredibly easy to design and decorate, making it a fun home project even if you’re working with limited space, time, or budget.
In this post, I wanted to share the anatomy of the perfect coffee bar, as well as show you how to interpret this space according to your style of preference. We’ll cover tips to get your basic setup started and then dive into 40+ beautiful finds to make styling and finishing details a breeze.
So grab a cute mug, make your favorite drink (I opted for a cozy black tea while writing this post 😉), and get ready to design the space of your dreams!

Why Should You Have A Home Coffee Bar?
Before investing in new equipment or decor, it’s always a good idea to reflect on whether this space is something you truly need. The last thing you want when it comes to interior design is to spend money and time on making your home feel more cluttered.
When deciding whether a personalized coffee station can work for your home, start by thinking of your daily habits and the available space you have. For example, is making coffee a big part of your morning routine while getting breakfast ready for the family? Perhaps a simple but efficient coffee bar design on your kitchen counter is what you need! Alternatively, if you have a very small kitchen, a forgotten living room or dining room corner may be in need of a desperate update. Or maybe you love to make yourself a cozy drink while working from your home office. In this case, your studio is the perfect place to style a coffee cart and guarantee you easy access to your favorite drink all day long!
Overall, this is a space worth having if you see yourself using it regularly. It can also be a great way to incentivize you to make coffee from the comfort of your own home. Having the ability to make your favorite drinks in a convenient spot within your home will help you save money and time that would usually be spent on takeaway drinks. Of course, I also believe in the value of adding a personal touch to your home. If brewing is a hobby you’re passionate about, regardless of how frequently you indulge in it, it should be part of your home decor!

The Basis Of A Functional Setup
Whenever I’m designing a space, I always like to start with the basics. It may be less fun than jumping into decorating mode, but I promise getting these pieces and decisions out of the way first thing will give you a better idea of the budget and space you have left over.
The key coffee essentials you’ll want to settle on before going onto the next stage are:
- Coffee Maker: the options are endless, truly. You can opt for the most fancy coffee machines or look into a very affordable espresso machine or French press. It all comes down to your budget, habits, and taste buds. You may have to find the right compromise between quality, style, and dimensions. For example, I don’t mind opting for a more simple machine as small appliances work much better for the small space in my apartment. You can always supplement it with a milk frother or kettle if needed. Take some time to select an appliance and evaluate your options – no need to rush this process!
- Location: one could argue that location is just as important in interior decor as it is in real estate. This is because it will determine what style of decor you’ll want to focus on. For instance, a kitchen coffee bar will be more functional and informal than a living room setup. Additionally, knowing exactly how much space you have available can help you better plan for purchases and extra storage needs. Perhaps there is an existing piece of furniture that will fit perfectly in the corner you chose – think of forgotten side tables, a small table from your old entryway, etc. Or maybe you need to commit a large portion of your budget to a new cart or sideboard.

7 Coffee Bar Ideas To Inspire Your Design
Home Coffee Bar: Modern

If your dream coffee bar is contemporary and sleek, you’ll want to opt for a more modern setup. Think of simple lines, geometric shapes, and stylish accents in neutral colors. The focal point of your DIY coffee station should be understated pieces that look sophisticated, trendy, and high-quality.
You can go for very minimalist designs and keep additional decor and accessories to a minimum for an ultra-clean look. This is a great idea especially if you have open shelves and want to avoid clutter at all costs. Alternatively, look for pieces that can complement your modern furniture while adding an element of visual interest. A simple but chic set of coffee mugs for your daily iced coffee, a beautiful wooden tray, or pretty containers to help you keep things organized.
Play around with styling and leverage different heights and textures to make your coffee nook look curated and elegant.
Home Coffee Bar: Rustic/Farmhouse

A rustic or farmhouse space is the ideal candidate for a beautiful coffee bar. This style lends itself to coziness and warmth, making it extra easy to amplify this vibe with your design. From organic materials like wood and linen to vintage-inspired designs for mugs and storage jars, a few simple touches can make a world of difference.
As far as the color palette is concerned, you’ll want to stick to warm, light neutrals. The only accent colors I would recommend are dark wooden tones, iron gray, and black. If you really want to add a pop of color, consider doing so with a small bouquet of fresh flowers or bright enamelware.
Bonus tip: if you have enough space, you could also install some open shelving. Farmhouse interiors are all about putting together an informal atmosphere, where daily utensils become an integral part of the decor. So why not display your collection of coffee mugs, a set of embroidered tea napkins, or your favorite rustic print?

Home Coffee Bar: Boho

Boho spaces scream warmth and attention to detail. The same should hold for your bohemia coffee bar. Warm wooden tones, woven accessories, organic elements, and floral references; all decorative items you should actively try to include in your design.
Depending on how much space you have available in your kitchen coffee bar, you could even add a few small plants for a lively touch of greenery and some wicker baskets to store larger appliances or backup supplies. There is no better way to embrace this aesthetic than to include organic textures in your kitchen coffee bar!
Personally, I always like to mix boho with a bit of a vintage vibe, but this is a style that can also work well with modern appliances. Especially a contemporary barista coffee machine can be a beautiful and functional complement to the more natural accessories you have chosen.
Home Coffee Bar: Eclectic Fun

If you are on the hunt for a unique and colorful coffee station idea, look no further than an eclectic setup. This style is a good idea if you love fun pieces that mix different styles and make a powerful statement in your space. Trust me when I say that you’ll be left not only with the possibility of a great cup of coffee at home but also a fun design you’ll love to look at every day!
For this setup, I encourage you to get creative. Look for bright and eye-catching decorative trays, display your favorite mug, and pair it with colorful glass spoons, look for a cheeky print or a textured table lamp. You can’t really go wrong with the mix-and-match approach. Of course, if you’re finding it a bit overwhelming, give yourself a more defined framework by limiting your color palette to a few colors or selecting a small subset of styles you want to focus on.
Home Coffee Bar: Mid-century Elegance

The perfect coffee station for a mid-century modern home should be a streamlined coffee bar where each individual piece works as an understated design accent. Think of bold colors, clean lines, and iconic shapes. There are so many vintage details you can include in your espresso setup. Overall, you’ll want to prioritize warm colors, wooden details, and retro-inspired appliances.
However, it’s important to mention that mid-century spaces require a good level of consistency. You’re likely going to invest a bit more time during the research and shopping phase of your coffee bar project than for a more straightforward style like modern or farmhouse. Just keep that in mind as far as your timeline is concerned and enjoy this part of the process. More unique or authentic items are exactly what make mid-century homes so gorgeous.

Home Coffee Bar: Glam & Luxury Details

A luxury space is all about elevated pieces and the right finishing touches. If this is the style you want for your coffee bar, look for decor with gold accents, classic designs, and elegant finishes. You can combine contemporary items with vintage pieces while focusing on an overall expensive, timeless look.
An important part of this style is that you’ll need smart storage solutions for your coffee supplies. It’s imperative that your setup can remain clean and clutter-free at all times. An idea I like that can help address this is to set up your coffee bar on a console table. You can use the upper shelf for your beautiful display. Additional items and more functional, less aesthetic pieces can then be stored on the lower shelf in nice boxes or baskets.
Home Coffee Bar: Old Money Style

As all interior designers will tell you, old-money interiors are all over the Internet. In simple terms, these spaces capture a vintage but timeless look that draws influence from European and academia interiors. For the perfect coffee corner, you’ll need to scour local thrift stores. I promise you’ll find plenty of chic coffee accessories that can help you design the perfect setup, filled with authentic personality and full of history.
Another great idea is to slowly accumulate decor over time. The whole point of this style is to display a curated collection of pieces that tell a unique story. Start by filling your counter space with the basics and then arm yourself with patience, letting your home coffee bar come to life over the next few months. It will take a bit longer to complete but I always find myself happier with pieces I have carefully found over time than impulse buys!
